The growth form reaches its distribution limit here within a few metres of altitude. Characterised by glacier forefields, shaped valleys, alluvial and mud cones, alpine grass and shrub heaths, countless moors and high lakes, as well as alpine and mountain meadows and stone walls shaped by people. There are different protection regulations of the national park. They are divided into core zone, outer zone and special protection. In the entire Alpine region and Central Europe, the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park and comprises 1856 square kilometres of unspoilt Alpine primeval landscape, as well as extensively used, traditional and rich cultural landscape.

Our tour leads us into the valley along the reservoir to the confluence of the Kleinelendtal. Here we turn right before the Kleinelendbrücke bridge. At Mitterboden you walk through countless moors, which were created by the sedimentation of a lake. Cross a wooden bridge and enjoy the view of the Kleinelendkees. The ascent goes up on lateral moraines. Passing boulder rubble and stony slopes, the path climbs up to the Zwischenelendkee. Having reached the highest point of the hike at 2676m, you will see the wildly romantic Upper Schwarzhornsee and on the opposite side of the mountain our Hochalmspitze reveals itself. Afterwards, you prepare yourself again for the descent towards the Osnabrücker Hut. Arrived at the Fallboden you will reach the most difficult part of the hike.
