Fresh powder snow sprays in all directions as you descend the still untouched morning slope. The massive ice cracks under the ice axe and gives you the necessary grip to climb up the impressive waterfall a little further.
Whatever it is that makes your winter sportsman’s heart beat faster – in the Maltatal there are a multitude of action-packed possibilities to satisfy your inner urge to move even during the cold season.

Winter and snowshoe hiking
Winter and snowshoe hiking in the Maltatal
Explore the winter mountain world on foot
Even in winter the hiking fun in the Maltatal does not stop. The only difference to summer is the equipment. During the cold season, this is combined with a few extra layers of warm clothes and – if you like – robust snowshoes.
Whether you want to take a relaxing stroll through the fairytale winter landscape of the Malta Valley, or discover the unspoilt nature off the prepared paths – in the Malta Valley there are many possibilities for a “hiking” pastime.
Stomp through the unique landscape and make a stop to build snowmen with your offspring. Or take another (snowshoe) step further and let an experienced guide show you the mountain world. Either way: Enjoy the silence, breathe the soothing mountain air and simply get away from it all.

Ice climbing
Climbing Valley Maltatal
A paradise for ice climbers
If you don’t want to give up your beloved climbing sport even in winter, the Maltatal is the best place to go. There are numerous ice climbing hotspots that make your fingertips tingling on arrival.
The “valley of falling waters” is well known to every ice climber and is especially famous for its versatility. Most of the waterfalls are easily accessible and avalanche safe in normal snow conditions. Professionals get their money’s worth here, as do those climbers who are on the ice for the first time. On request, the Maltatal also offers the possibility of being introduced to the world of ice climbing by an expert.
Most icefalls are located on private property, which is mainly used for hunting and forestry. In order to prevent conflicts between ice climbers and landowners or hunting rights holders and to protect the interests of both groups also in the future, we ask all guests to keep some agreements/rules. This is the only way we can guarantee that we will continue to enable a common cooperation between forestry, hunting, agriculture and tourism in the future.
